POLIOPLUS

Dear Rotary club president:

Virtual meetings are helping to keep Rotary clubs connected during this unprecedented time, when societies around the world are again cooperating to reach a huge public health goal.

One way to keep your online meetings interesting and informative is by watching videos together. We’re sharing two 10-15 minute videos about Rotary’s global fight to eradicate polio that you can use in your next club meeting. They offer historical context on how broadly that disease, too, once affected societies — and how Rotary took the lead in changing that. They also give an update on our progress toward eradication and list actions we can take together to end polio for good.

Even while we cope with COVID-19, it’s important that we not forget about polio and our promise to eradicate it. We can also be proud of the fact that the polio network that Rotarians have helped to build is being used to combat the new coronavirus. In Afghanistan, teams that watch for polio cases are working to detect any cases of COVID-19, and in Nigeria, medical staff who work on polio eradication are tracing the contacts of people who have COVID-19 and conducting research on the new disease.

And for the most up-to-date information on how the coronavirus is affecting Rotary, see the Rotary Monitors the Coronavirus Impact page.

Thank you for all that you do for the health of others. We are confident that with your club’s continued support, we’ll end polio and make history together.

Sincerely,

PolioPlus Program
